FAQ

What is Medicare Advantage?

Medicare Advantage is another way to get your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans,” are offered by Medicare-approved private companies that must follow rules set by Medicare.

Who is eligible for Medicare Supplement Insurance?

To be eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan, first enroll in Medicare. Medicare Part A and Part B are generally available to citizens of the USA or permanent legal residents for at least five continuous years who have any one of the following qualifications:

  • Aged 65 and older
  • Diagnosed with end stage renal disease (ESRD – permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant)
  • Receiving disability benefits from the Social Security Administration or the Railroad Retirement Board. Generally you’re eligible for Medicare after receiving disability benefits for 24 months in a row.
  • Diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).
When can I sign up for Medicare Supplement Insurance?

The best time to enroll is during your Medigap open enrollment period, a six-month window of time that begins on the first day of the month that you are at least 65 years old and are enrolled in Medicare Part B.

How can I review my current coverage?

In most cases your coverage will auto-renew each year. You don’t have to do anything to continue with your current plan. But if you’d like to make changes, you’ll get the chance to do so during the Annual Enrollment Period.

My current plan is leaving my county, how can I prepare?

Call your Medicare agent ASAP! In most cases your agent will guide you to a new plan that’s best for you or in some cases keep your current plan.
