As 2025 comes to a close, SBHIS is reflecting on the moments that brought us closer to the communities we serve. This year, one moment stood above the rest: our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.
In the spirit of the season, we were honored to provide over 2,000 turkeys and thousands of grocery essentials to families across Los Angeles, Northern California, and San Diego.

This year’s effort stretched across communities, from Southgate to Modesto to Chula Vista. Despite rain, cold weather, and challenges, the SBHIS team, along with our volunteers and partners, delivered.

Los Angeles

At the Chamber of Commerce in Southgate, the parking lot on Tweedy Lane overflowed with families. With the help of local partners, we distributed 400 turkeys and hundreds of grocery bags.

Modesto

In Modesto, over 500 turkeys were handed out as families lined up despite the rainy weather. Many left grateful for the support.

One community member shared:

“The groceries and the turkey will be a delight on my table for Thanksgiving. It’s a blessing. Thank you so much, SBHIS.”

Chula Vista

By 5 a.m., cars were lined up for blocks near our San Diego office. Despite the thunder and rain, more than 1,200 families received support, showing just how powerful it is when a community comes together. Because of the weather, we quickly adapted and transformed the event into a drive-thru distribution. We had to ensure everyone could stay safe, dry, and still receive the help they came for.

A Response to Rising Need

Food insecurity remains a growing concern for families across California, driven by rising costs and reductions in food benefits. At SBHIS, we saw this year’s Turkey Drive as an essential way to step in and support our communities when it mattered most.
We’ve always believed that our role in healthcare extends beyond insurance. Serving our communities means being consistently present, offering meaningful support, and stepping in wherever and whenever help is needed.
This year’s Turkey Drive was our largest to date. It exceeded expectations in reach and in heart. Behind every turkey delivered was a story, a family, and a community member who deserved to feel seen and supported.

Looking Ahead to 2026

To everyone who helped make this possible—our staff, volunteers, community partners, and supporters—thank you. Your dedication turned a seasonal effort into a statewide success.
We are committed to continuing this work and expanding it in 2026. Because when we serve together, we build stronger, healthier communities. And that’s what SBHIS is all about.
From all of us at SBHIS: thank you for being part of this mission.
