Mask-Wearing Policies Added to San Diego County’s Public Health Order

San Diego County has issued new instructions with the use of face masks.

Employees who work with the general public will be mandated to wear face masks by Saturday and continue with their hygiene and physical distance procedures, citizens have been instructed to cover their faces if they need to leave their homes.

“We absolutely and unequivocally believe that the month of April is the month that will determine our trajectory as a region, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said Wednesday.

“We believe this is the month where we find out if we end up like Italy or New York or if we find ourselves through a better pathway and a better direction.”

Scripps prepares for ‘slow-moving tsunami’ of coronavirus cases as surgical masks, ventilators are in short supply

Scripps Health CEO, Chris Van Gorder, says we are expecting an increase of coronavirus-related cases, surgical masks are already in short supply, and doctors are expected to convert anesthesia machines into ventilators if necessary.
He describes this as a “slow moving tsunami”

“We know it’s coming,” he continued. “We can actually see it. We’ve got the early stages of it already coming ashore. You can see that with the positive patients we have in our hospital. But we don’t know how big that tsunami is actually going to be.”

Scripps Health operates five hospitals with 1,453 beds, 28 outpatient centers and treats roughly 600,000 patients each year. As of Monday, it had processed 4,822 coronavirus tests, identifying 217 COVID-19 patients, Van Gorder said. They had just nine coronavirus patients in the intensive care unit and five of them were using ventilators as of last week, he said.

UnitedHealth Group Commits Initial $50 Million to Combat COVID-19 and Support Affected Communities

UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) will invest an initial $50 million to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and support those most directly impacted by the public health emergency, including health care workers, hard-hit states, seniors and people experiencing food insecurity or homelessness.

“As this unprecedented public health emergency rapidly evolves, we must take bold actions to support those in need and combat the COVID-19 virus,” said Dave Wichmann, chief executive officer of UnitedHealth Group. “This initial investment of $50 million will support that effort, as we continue to mobilize the full strength of our resources, deep clinical expertise, and compassionate team to deliver the best care for patients, support our members and care providers, and deliver innovative solutions that will benefit the entire health care system.”

Through several national and local partnerships that will be announced in the coming weeks, UnitedHealth Group and the United Health Foundation will invest approximately:

        · $30 million in efforts to protect and support health care workers.

        · $10 million to support states where COVID-19 is having an outsized impact, starting with New York, New Jersey, Washington, California and Florida.

        ·  $5 million to address social isolation among seniors.

        ·  $5 million to provide care and support for people experiencing food insecurity or homelessness.

UnitedHealth Group is also organizing and matching employee donations dollar for dollar to support the COVID-19 response efforts.

“We are partnering with leading industry and non-profit organizations to ensure resources are deployed quickly and effectively to accelerate the efforts to fight COVID-19 and provide support for those most impacted by this global health crisis,” Wichmann continued.
